Social networking

Social networking is useful in many ways. It can be used to communicate with friends or meet new people (on Instagram and Facebook), make yourself known to employers (on LinkedIn), and advertising your business for free (again on Instagram and Facebook). According to the article “Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting”, Maureen Crawford-Hentz, recruiter for Osram Sylvania, stated ”Social networking technology is absolutely the best thing to happen to recruiting — ever.”

Although social media has its positive effects, there is definitely a dark side to it. People make fake accounts and pretend to be other people (as seen on MTV’s Catfish). There’s also cyberbullying where people bully others through their keyboards. Privacy is also a concern. According to the article “Who cares about Facebook Privacy? Students Do”, Researchers Danah Boyd and Eszter Hargittai stated “Over all, our data show that far from being nonchalant and unconcerned about privacy matters, the majority of young adult users of Facebook are engaged with managing their privacy settings on the site at least to some extent,”

I think in the future there will only be one prime social media app that does everything. For example, Snapchat has become quite useless ever since Instagram started offering the “Stories” option.

Napster, a program first of its kind, was popular not only because it was free but because there were no music labels selling music online in 1999. In the article , Choi/Perez mentions "C onsumer...

Wiki So Far

I haven't added any content on Wiki yet but as of right now I would like to contribute to the Marketing wiki as I'm a Marketing major and have learned a thing or two this semester.

YouTube vs. TV

YouTube has content for  everyone . For example, there are many YouTuber's that post vlogs (blogs in video form), comedic skits, pranks, tutorials, DIY's, just to name a few! YouTube has provided us all with content that we wouldn't be able to find elsewhere.  I think we can all attest that  YouTube is great, but is it better than TV? I will be researching this topic from an economical, technological, and educational perspective. I'll also be discussing about the positive/negative effects and impact YouTube has on society.
