A new media that doesn't exist yet.. maybe McGraw Hill Connect mobile app.. that actually works. Currently the McGraw Hill Connect mobile app doesn't allow students to read or do assignments on their phone. As a student, I'm always on the go and sometimes when your traveling you find opportunities where you can read or answer a few homework questions to keep busy. Their current app does nothing.

Wiki So Far

I haven't added any content on Wiki yet but as of right now I would like to contribute to the Marketing wiki as I'm a Marketing major and have learned a thing or two this semester.

P2P

What is file sharing? File sharing is t he potential to transfer files from one device to another. Two programs most students use that are also file sharing programs is Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. These programs allow you to share big files, store in the cloud, sync, and collaborate with others. 2.  What is P2P File sharing? P2P (peer to peer) file sharing is when there are people uploading files and others are downloading. There are two requirements for P2P file sharing, internet connection and a P2P software such as Napster, etc.  Although P2P is great, piracy and illegal music downloading is common. 3. What are some examples of P2P file sharing? Napster, a program where people upload songs so others can download for free is an example of P2P file sharing. Napster, a program first of its kind, was popular not only because it was free but because there were no music labels selling music online in 1999. Privacy

New media such as Facebook and Instagram have privacy and confidentiality issues. These issues arise when people post too much information about themselves or post an inappropriate photo. People think the delete button will save them but a lot of information can still be surfacing on the web. Having a private account really won't help considering that anyone who is following you on Instagram or friends with you on Facebook can just save and repost your info or pic somewhere else. To avoid issues, people simply need to know what's too much to share and what's just right.

Advice

If I was hired by Baruch College to improve the college by using new media, I would implement the use of Reddit. Reddit users create forums where they can ask a question or start a discussion on a specific topic. Anyone from anywhere can answer and other people can up vote or down vote your comment. I think it would be a great idea for Baruch to have an account where students can ask questions and have it answered by other Baruch students.

Creativity

YouTube is a new media that fosters creativity. YouTube allows anyone from anywhere to share content that may be interesting for others to view. To gain subscribers, YouTubers usually want to be different and stand out which forces them to be creative.  According to the paper “YouTube Traffic Characterization: A View From the Edge”, it states “Instead of consuming content posted by a single administrator, users are now able to post their own content and view content posted by their peers.” I myself am a big fan of YouTube because of this. I love the fact that I can find and enjoy relatable content that isn’t on TV.

Blog about Twitter

One main difference between a Twitter discussion and a BlackBoard discussion would be that on Twitter, anyone can join in the conversation (assuming Twitter account is public) whereas on BlackBoard, only students/professor of the class or at least school can comment and be apart of a discussion. An in-class discussion can be different as some people might not speak up in person whereas online they do because they feel more confident.
